New Trends in Social Media

The Rise of Social Media

When it comes to social networking, the millennial generation dominates all age groups as the most avid users of social media.

There is no denying the rise of social media in recent years, but which social networking app is number one?

With so many options available these days, it is hard to keep up with all of the trending apps.

The Options

According to researchers at TechCrunch, the most widespread social media apps are:

  • Facebook
  • Instagram
  • Snapchat
  • Twitter
  • Pinterest
  • Vine
  • Tumblr
  • Youtube

This may not seem like a long list but the competition is fierce.

The Competition

It does not seem too long ago when Facebook ruled the social media kingdom as it used to answer everyone’s social media needs. Unfortunately for them, those days are long gone.

Nowadays, it seems as though there is an app for everything we could possibly think of. Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat are all perfect examples of social media apps that focus on a specific element of Facebook and make it their own. These apps thrive not because they are new, rather they are unique and answer a specific need.

Instead of being the dominant social media app, Facebook now serves different purposes whether they like it or not.

Who Rules?

With so many social networking options to pick from, it is quite an accomplishment to be the fastest growing app.

TechCrunch’s research proved Snapchat to be the fastest growing app on the market today. Not only this, but Martin-Wilbourn Partners came out with an article that showed Snapchat is now the third most popular social network among millennials. It is more popular than Twitter and being valued at $10 billion.

Pretty impressive, if you ask me.

While Facebook is still sits in the number one spot as having 71% of internet users, Snapchat has proven to be a social media app to be reckoned at the rate they are growing.
